POST-SCRIPT Redefining the Boundaries of Calligraphy CALLIGRAPHY WORKS BY Mahdi Dolatyari & Farzana Razzaque CURATED BY Joseph Harper September 8 – October 3, 2026 Reception Friday, Sept 11, 630-8:30 Post-Script: Redefining the Boundaries of Calligraphy explores the expansive possibilities of calligraphic practice beyond the conventions of stylistic writing. Bringing together works that range from traditional pen-and-paper compositions to sculptural forms, installations, and multimedia experiences, this exhibition reveals calligraphy as both a living artistic tradition and as a continually evolving contemporary artistic practice. At its core, Post-Script honors the discipline of calligraphy in its most fundamental form, the intimate relationship between ink, paper, and gesture, while also challenging the boundaries of where calligraphy can exist and the ways in which it can be experienced. Through the experimental approaches of contemporary calligraphers Farzana Razzaque and Mahdi Dolatyari, this exhibition examines the manner in which artists renegotiate the practice of calligraphy and its ability to transform the written word, both typographically and topographically, into fluid expressions imbued with new materials, spaces, and contexts. Drawing from the artists’ experiences with language, translation, diaspora, and belonging, “script” in this context serves as a vessel for memory, identity, and personal histories. Reflecting the complexities of navigating multiple cultures and languages, this exhibition invites audiences to consider calligraphy as an aesthetic tradition that, as a living, adaptable form of expression, carries personal narratives across time and place.
